Chapter 1
In Chapter 1 the reader is introdueced to Joey as the main character. He is portrayed as a naive 'spindly-looking, half thouroughbred colt.' You find out about his harsh erly memories and his horrific expirence or being sold to a coldhearted, drunkard farmer. The farmers actions are contrasted in his son's kindness towards Joey as albert loves the horse unlike his father and his mother is not to sure what to think.
When he arrives in his new stable he meets an elderly horse who takes pity on him. The bond and form a wonderdful friendship that truly wamrms the readers heart
